PD Measurement Guide
Measure your pupillary distance accurately at home
Stand in Front of a Mirror
Position yourself about 20 cm (8 inches) from a well-lit mirror. Look straight ahead at your reflection.
Natural daylight works best. Avoid squinting or tilting your head.
Hold a Ruler Across Your Brow
Place a millimeter ruler across the bridge of your nose, resting on your brow line. Align the zero mark with the center of your right pupil.
A flat ruler works better than a flexible tape measure for accuracy.
Close Your Right Eye
While holding the ruler steady, close your right eye. Keep your left eye open and look straight ahead at the mirror.
Keep the ruler perfectly still when closing your eye. Do not move your head.
Read the Measurement
With your left eye, look at your left pupil in the mirror and read the millimeter mark that aligns with its center. That number is your PD.
The measurement should typically fall between 54mm and 74mm for adults.
Record Your PD
Write down the number. Repeat 2-3 times to confirm accuracy. Your measurements should be within 1mm of each other.
Example: If the ruler reads 63 at your left pupil center, your PD is 63mm.
Average PD Ranges
Children (5-12)
43-54mm
Teens (12-18)
54-62mm
Adult Women
57-65mm
Adult Men
60-70mm
Measuring Dual PD
For even more accuracy, you can measure each eye separately. Measure from the center of your nose bridge to the center of each pupil. The right and left PD values may differ by 1-2mm, which is completely normal.
